Kickboxing

Kickboxing is a total workout for the body and mind. With its roots dating back more than 2000 years, the sport combines elements of karate, Muay Thai, and western boxing. Kickboxing provides many benefits, such as increasing your fitness, strength, coordination and endurance. It’s also a great activity for reducing and relieving stress, as well as learning some basic self defence techniques.
 

Kickboxing trainer Lee Stephens is a former Australian ISKA super welter weight champion. With almost 20 years’ experience in the sport, Lee has a passion for kickboxing that he enjoys sharing with young athletes. His classes vary from week to week, with focuses on different skills, techniques, combinations and drills.

Suitable for: SSIS teachers only

Other Costs & Things You Need: Suitable work out clothes (NB shoes are not required), towel, water bottle. Protective gear (ie hand wraps, mouth guards) are recommended, and can be purchased online or through stores such as Decathlon. Approximate costs: hand wraps 30RMB, mouth guards 35RMB.

Transport & Supervision:

  • Adult class: No bus transport provided. Participants must make their own way to and from the activity at the designated times.

Taekwondo

Taekwondo is a martial art focused on harmony of body and mind. It promotes self-confidence and respect.

Training session includes flexibility, core strength, punching, front kick, side kick, round-house kick, back kick, spinning kick, combination drills, taekwondo forms according to respective level, and basic sparring principles (with protectors).

Master Sanchez is a 5th Degree Black certified by the Headquarter of the World Taekwondo Federation. He has more than twenty years of experience in teaching both children and adults. His class is fun but intense.

Suitable for: Age 5-11

Venue: SSIS Taekwondo Room

Maximum Class Size: 20

Class Types:

  • Age 5-11: Mondays 3:45-4:45 pm (12 sessions: 1,380 RMB)
  • Age 5-11: Saturdays 12:00-1:00 pm (10 sessions: 1,150 RMB)

Other Costs & Things You Need: You must have a uniform (cost approx. 100 RMB) & protective gear (cost approx. 600 RMB). You may purchase these from the coach if you wish.

Instructor:

Transport & Supervision: This is a weekend activity. It is the responsibility of parents to deliver their child to and from the activity at the designated times. Parents are expected to remain onsite during the activity.

Dragon Fit

Dragon Fit is a circuit based exercise class that combines high intensity training, body weight exercises, cardio and boxing based training.

Exercise is all about developing a routine and incorporating it into your everyday life.

Suitable for: Adults (teachers, parents and staff)

Venue: Fitness Room (off Secondary Gym) & Running Track

Maximum Class Size: 10

Minimum Class Size: 4

Class Type: 22 sessions (Generally two sessions per week):

  • Tuesday 5:00-6:00 pm & Friday 6:45-7:30 am (22 sessions: 1,980 RMB)

Adult Yoga

Pearl is offering 75 minute yoga classes based on asana techniques(yoga posture), pranayama techniques(breathing exercises), and meditation that will help our mind to be clam and harmonious, therefore leading to a healthier body and mind. Yoga classes are an opportunity for personal and physical growth as well as relaxation and centering. Yoga is the challenge of finding your true self by focusing on the exercises for mental and physical health. The practice encourages a balanced lifestyle and wellbeing. When one is able to internally reflect we can be more open and flexible to the constantly changing educational environment.

Pearl is a certified yoga teacher by Yoga Alliance USA by completing an intense and comprehensive yoga teacher training course including, HathaYoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Yin Yoga, Ashtanga, Aerial, and Acro yoga with yoga philosophy. She deeply understands that yoga is a process of purifying our body, mind, and soul and requires a number of chronological practice.

Suitable for: Adults – teachers and parents welcome

Class Type: 

  • Beginner: Mondays 5:15 - 6:30pm (12 sessions, 840 RMB)

Other Cost & Things You Need: Athletic, comfortable, stretchy clothing and yoga bolster. These can be found in any sports store. Yoga mats are provided, but if you have your own preference, please bring it with you.
