Drum Kit / Bass Guitar

I'm William. Music is my Life. I learned Guitar, Bass and Drums at a very young age. My love for music made me choose it as my profession. My purpose in life now is to share this passion not only with young kids, but with everyone who is willing to learn music. I have taught in many music schools in the Philippines for over 10 years and here in China I continue this passion having taught at SSIS for around 4 years as part of their music program.

Suitable for: Grade 1 – 12 & Adult students welcome

Class Types: 30 minute lessons

1. Beginner Lessons (0-2 years experience)

  • Individual lesson (10 sessions: 1,800 RMB)
  • 2 student lesson (10 sessions: 1,100 RMB each)

2. Intermediate Lessons (2-4 years experience)

  • Individual lesson (10 sessions: 1,800 RMB)
  • 2 student lesson (10 sessions: 1,100 RMB each)

Please note that 2 Student Lessons are only available where 2 students of similar ability can be scheduled successfully. We will contact you if any problems occur.

Day & Time of Sessions: Lessons will be held during school hours and/or directly after school between 3:30 – 5:00 pm. After registrations have closed we will advise students of their lesson schedule and music room. Elementary student lessons will typically be at a set time once per week. Other Cost & Things You Need: A drum kit is provided during lessons. For bass guitar you need to bring your own instrument. Please contact the instructor for instrument rental/purchase advice.

Instructor:

Transport: If your child has a lesson after school and they are in Grade 2 or above they may catch the 5:00 pm activity bus home. However please note this bus runs from Tuesday to Friday, but not on Mondays. Parents will have to provide transport home if their child has a Monday after school lesson. Students in Grade 1 or below cannot catch the bus and must be collected by parents.

Supervision/Obligations: Both Elementary & Secondary students should implement their own lesson reminder system, and so must remember and then make their own way to lessons. SSIS will ask instructors to promptly inform us if students do not arrive at their scheduled lessons.

For Elementary students who have not attended these music or vocal lessons before, an SSIS staff member will guide the student to their first lesson (showing them how to get to the music room).

Flute

Tutor: Alejandra Rivera

The flute lessons are previously prepared depending of the level of the student, looking for an individual improvement and selecting the ideal method for each one.

Born in Tampico, Mexico, Alejandra Rivera is a 27-year-old young flutist. She started playing flute at the level of age of 14, when she was admitted as a student to the School of Music at the University of Tamaulipas in Mexico. Since then, Alejandra performed as a soloist in several chamber music orchestras and International Flute Festivals. She also performed in Eastern Europe and China. She studied 2 years of the program Professional Studies at Suzhou University School of music.

I am blessed to have a talent in music, especially in playing guitar. Since 1991 I have worked internationally, in many different parts of Asia, and have performed in many famous hotels and bars. My experiences over more than 2 decades have given me the chance to teach guitar in many countries. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and skills to all guitar aspirants and guitar lovers, ages 6-40.

Piano A

Tutor: Silvia Yao

Silvia currently is studying at Suzhou University, School of Music, majoring in piano and minoring in singing.

She started learning to play the piano at the age of five with prizes in several piano competitions home and abroad.
 

She is also an experienced piano and wind teacher, passionate about teaching young children in Music.

She has been teaching SSIS kids piano for 2 years, kids love her for her talented piano skills and caring heart.

Piano B

Jingyu began playing Pipa (traditional Chinese lute) at the young age of four and received lessons from three of China’s most renowned Pipa-masters. Due to her interest in western music she started to learn piano at ten and her vocal talent was discovered at fifteen when she was accepted as solo singer into a three-year program for promotion of young talents. After graduating in music education from Beijing Normal University, she decided to pursue her studies abroad and studied western music in Germany writing her PhD thesis at University of Arts Berlin about the Lied. She gave over 100 concerts in Germany, France, and other European countries, including solo performances for Chancellor G. Schroeder, the president of China XI Jinping and other prominent audiences.            

Jingyu has more than 15 years teaching experience in music schools in China and Germany. Between October 2015 and July 2016 she taught students majoring in vocal at the Music Institute of Suzhou University of Science and Technology, and worked as teacher for piano and vocal lessons at SSIS Suzhou. After her baby break she is now looking forward to resume her work in professional music education. As a teacher she is happy when students develop and enjoy the music. She understands very well the psychological characteristics of students of different ages, masters flexible teaching methods. Her vocal classes can cover both western vocal techniques (e.g. Italian aria, art song, German Lied) as well as Chinese songs and introduce young students to the joy of singing with creativity and passion.

Jingyu offers lessons in English, German and Chinese language.

Violin

Tutor: Natalie Xie

Natalie is a Taiwanese student who currently studies Violin at Xi’an Jiao’tong Liverpool University.

She is from a music family and her parents and grandparents have reputable music careers in both Taiwan and mainland China. Natalie started her Violin lessons when she was 4 years old. She believes her life would be incomplete without music.

She has more than eight years experience within orchestras and completed piano Master class with Professor Misha Namirovsky at Suzhou Culture Centre. She enjoys teaching young children here at SSIS.
