Grade 1’s current Unit of Inquiry is Sharing the Planet. We have been learning about different living things in the environment and the different habitats.

This week the Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) classes became the storytellers while their families became the audience in our Pre-K storytellers culminating activity for our Unit of Inquiry –‘How We Express Ourselves’.
After identifying the ongoing issue of rubbish and waste and noticing that the local park behind the neighbourhood centre is often filled with trash, Grade 4 decided to act on this and organized themselves with trash bags and gloves and set towards cleaning up the park.
This weekend a group of PYP staff joined together to take part in an IB in-school workshop, Making the PYP Happen: Implementing Agency.
It’s always nice to have parents join us on campus and to be able to observe first-hand how we work together in support of Elementary children. However, after a year of reduced parent events and parent visits it was especially heart-warming to hold Parent-Teacher Conferences this past week and see the community buzzing with activity again.
Students from 1JH and 1MH went up to Mr. Lowery's classroom to learn about cells-the basic building block for all living organisms.
Carmelita is our Elementary Counsellor at SSIS, she mainly works on supporting social-emotional learning, both through general programmes (such as messy play) and individual and group counselling sessions. From November, she has been running six group activities, targeting critical social-emotional skills and healthy friendship.
It will soon be time to celebrate Chinese New Year and with it the beginning of the Second Semester. We have been working hard on a number of exciting and important Second Semester initiatives that will support Elementary students and families.
