On November 23, SSIS launched its 25th anniversary celebration, marking the beginning of a series of events to celebrate the 25th birthday of SSIS.
Over 1200 students, faculty and staff members gathered together to celebrate this significant milestone on campus. Going forward, SSIS will organize a series of events, reaching out to our community members, parents and friends, to celebrate what we have achieved and to appreciate what our community has offered.
Today, a lot of fun activities happened around school!
All of our students, from the little ones in Early Childhood to G12, our teachers and staff went outside on the field, forming the shape of number “25”. It was a cold but beautiful morning, especially with our Dragon on the field to cheer with us!
Our talented students also put up amazing performances on stage, featuring a range of different acts, including orchestra, piano, dance, choir, Spanish guitar and concert band.
During the ceremony, Mr. Ang Kian Teck, Chairman of SSIS board, highlighted in his speech that SSIS has kept up with the times since its establishment in 1996. “Over the last 25 years, SSIS has grown from the school with 20 students into one of the top international schools in China. We have over 10,000 students who have studied or are currently studying in the school, and every one of you is special to us. On behalf of the board, I would like to thank you all to make the contribution that made the school successful. The school will continue to be an example and make sure all students are successful.”
Our Head of School, Mr. Samer Khouri also shared his three wishes to everyone. “I have 3 wishes. First, I wish that everyone in this school have wonderful and great day every day. Second, I wish for every person in the school to build really nice memories. And my last wish is in 25 years’ time, when you come back here and look back, you still think it is a great school that has lots of nice things and all sorts of people as time goes”
The ceremony was finally wrapped up with a special birthday cake cutting ceremony.
Happy 25th Birthday SSIS！
25 years ago, SSIS was established to support the growth of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) and support foreign investment and collaboration with China. In order to provide the quality education needed from the children of expatriate families in SIP, Mr. Philip Yeo, the Chairman of the Economic Development Board of Singapore, decided on 1st April 1996 that we should have the school up and functioning by the beginning of the new school year in September 1996.
In the earliest years, SSIS started with 20 students and 6 teachers in a few rooms above a coffee shop in Singa Plaza. Today, SSIS has grown into a fully accredited, well-known international school with 1100+ students from 50 different nationalities.
SSIS is an essential facility within the SIP and it becomes a visible demonstration of the commitment to providing the quality education needed in SIP for expatriate staff and their families. Besides being the oldest and largest international school in Suzhou, SSIS is commitment to providing a rigorous, holistic education to cultivate global citizens and life-long learners.
