THE SSIS PARENT SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP (PSP)

Mission

Provide a strong school community where parents and students feel welcomed and supported in all of their education endeavors.

Vision

Build a supportive, nurturing, inclusive community; that strives to shape all students into responsible, respectful, global citizens.

We have an active and lively Parent School Partnership (PSP) organization. The PSP is our parent-led group that works with our teachers and senior leadership team to continue the tradition of a strong international school community.

Our inclusive parent group welcomes all nationalities and plans parent-led activities throughout the year. Whether you’d like to contribute to a bake sale, lead a cooking class, join the PSP executive board, or head up a committee for International Family Day, there are all kinds of ways to be involved at our school.

If you would like to find out more about how you can be involved in the PSP and make a difference at SSIS, please send a note to pspservice@mail.ssis-suzhou.net

PARENT COMMITTEE

Members

One of the greatest strengths of SSIS is the partnership between school and home.

SSIS very much appreciates, values and encourages parent participation in our school. There are many ways parents can become involved, regardless of whether they have a lot of time to spare or work full-time. We love seeing parents on campus helping out, attending a parent class or just stopping by to have lunch with their child. There is no shortage of ways parents can contribute and actively participate in our dynamic school community.

PARENT VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS

The Parent Volunteer Program at SSIS is a wonderful opportunity for parents to engage with our community and support our students' learning experiences. We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers for three key areas。

Messy Play, where you can help facilitate creative and sensory activities that foster exploration and fun; Library Volunteers, who will assist in maintaining our library’s organization and helping students discover new books; and Parent Readers, who will share their love of reading by reading aloud to classes and inspiring a passion for literature.

Messy Play and Counselling

Our Messy Play program started a number of years ago, based on research which associates opportunities to engage in messy play as necessary in the development of healthy children. Through engaging in a variety of sensory experiences, whether the medium is water, sand, glue, mud, glitter, slime, stones or fabric students develop a healthy disposition for learning and a sense of curiosity about the world.

PSP COUNTRY REPRESENTATIVES

A PSP Country Representative is the liaison person between the PSP and his/her country community. The Country Representative is the PSP contact for questions and support in a parent’s mother tongue. The Country Representatives provide support for new families to assist them in settling in smoothly at school and in Suzhou and help advice regarding life in Suzhou and China, such as places to live, where to shop, items they should bring from their home country. Please contact psprepresentative@mail.ssis-suzhou.net, and we’ll connect you with your crew from your country!

Welcoming New Parents: A Guide to Smooth Transition

Transitioning to a new school community can be both exciting and challenging for new parents. At SSIS, we recognize the mix of emotions that come with this change and aim to provide a welcoming environment that eases the transition process. With the PSP (Parent School Partnership) hosting the new parents' welcome event this week, here are some key takeaways for new parents:

community events

At SSIS, we celebrate our vibrant community through a variety of exciting events, including the New Families Welcome Morning Tea, Book Exchange Week, International Family Day, Spring Charity Gala, Staff Appreciation Day, Hangeul Day, Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas Tree Lighting, and the Lunar New Year Tea Party. These events foster connection and enrich our school spirit. If you're interested in helping out with any of these events, have great ideas to share, or wish to propose new initiatives, please don’t hesitate to contact pspservice@mail.ssis-suzhou.net. Your involvement is invaluable in making our community even stronger!

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

On Friday, December 1st, the school foyer transformed into a magical wonderland as the entire community, including students, teachers, and parents, gathered for the annual Christmas tree lighting event.

PARENT activities

At SSIS, we offer a variety of vibrant parent social groups designed to connect families and foster friendships. Join us for Cooking sessions where you can share recipes and culinary skills, unwind in our Yoga classes to promote wellness and relaxation, or sing your heart out with the Choir group. If you’re interested in being part of any of these groups or would like to start a new one, please contact pspservice@mail.ssis-suzhou.net

INTERNATIONAL FAMILY DAY

International Family Day is an annual celebration of all the nationalities that make up the SSIS community. The school’s spectacular annual International Family Day is organized by parents and staff.

This is the event on our school calendar that everyone looks forward to all year long. This fantastic occasion brings together the entire community celebrating national pride and international diversity. During the day everyone enjoys sampling food from the country stalls, winning raffle prizes, bidding on the country and class baskets, taking part in the games, and watching performances.

The SSIS International Family Day is a fun event suitable for all ages, organized by the school community for the school and wider Suzhou community. Funds raised from the event support local, national and international charities.

The day highlights what the families at SSIS stand for. Living in Suzhou most of us are far away from our homes and roots. On this day we celebrate our heritage and traditions together with our local families and community. As we proudly fly our flags, taste each other’s dishes, participate in games and perform on stage, borders cease to exist.

While International Family Day is a celebration of the many different nationalities present in the school community, its core aim is to raise money for charitable organizations in Suzhou and further afield.
