Student Services
At SSIS everything we do is built on the two following principles:
- Everyone is able to learn;
- All teachers are responsible for all the children, all the time.
Based on our commitment to ensure every student's success, we offer additional support in the following areas:
- Language Learning
- Counseling Services
- Learning Support Services
At SSIS, English is the language of instruction. We are proud of our international community and recognize that all of our students at SSIS are learning English as their first, second, third, or even fourth language. We understand that our families expect their children to develop fluency and proficiency in the English language, and we strive to meet the individual needs of all students for language learning. At SSIS we are committed to an inclusive, supportive-immersion model. We believe that all subject content will improve English language acquisition, and learning English is no longer the job of an EAL team of teachers, but rather approached across subjects. Students join our regular program with their grade level peers, and we provide targeted English language support to students who are emergent language learners and to all students who need additional support to ensure they grow and succeed across all academic areas.
Our Student Support Team uses the WIDA assessment to help create a language profile for our newer to English students so that we have a better understanding of what each student needs in their language journey. This assessment provides us with additional information on reading, writing and listening. This information is shared with parents, students and teachers. Our support teachers team co-teach, co-plan and collaborate closely with all teachers to ensure that learning and assessment is accessible to all students.
